Mental Health and why it matters. KEFI Fit™ strives of being of value to the communities we serve through our program. We will be hosting our 2nd class in Markham on Friday, September 27th at Elite Danceworx and this time around we decided to contribute and do our part to support causes in the community that matter to us. A portion of our proceeds from this fundraiser will be supporting mental health at Markham Stouffville Hospital and here’s why.
Promoting a healthy lifestyle is much more than being able to do a squat or a leg lift. Most of us have participated in countless of fitness programs that result in the same thing. The science behind exercise is not a new one and there are countless of studies that prove the benefits of exercise, from reducing depression, anxiety and ADHD to shifting hormone levels that put you in a good mood. Exercise is good for the body and great for the mind and is an all around necessity for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We know all of this, none of this is breaking news. Our position is that if you’re placed in an environment that makes you feel good, you’re more likely to stick to it and continue feeling good!
Studies however don’t always speak to those who suffer from mental illness and sometimes the fog is simply too thick to navigate through alone. This is where mental health facilities come into the picture. The importance and the priceless service they provide is immeasurable. Removing the stigma behind mental illness and mental health facilities particularly within a cultural community is paramount for patients actually receiving the help they so desperately need without fear or judgement. We wanted an opportunity to support the local Markham community and after some research opted to donate to The Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation benefiting mental health. They offer inpatient and outpatient services mental health treatment and support for those in crisis.
Dancing ourselves fit and happy definitely works but there is no shame in finding a facility that can help when that’s simply not enough. We’re extremely proud to be contributing in a small way. Every dollar counts and we ask that you spend your 1 hour with us as we shimmy and shake and bring the FUN back into FITNESS for a great cause. $15 per person / [email protected]
